Day Tour: Sipadan Island (Sipadan Permits Required)

Sipadan Island is prominent for its vertical reef drop which descends deeply near the island edge. As a strict marine reserve, regional authorities enforce an official daily visitor cap using Sipadan permits managed via specialized dive operations. Journeys to this location leave early from either the Semporna waterfront jetty or Mabul bases, rather than launching directly from Bihing Angan Water Resort. Couples and families usually integrate their time here by scheduling an extension with a licensed permit holding base on Mabul Island for a few nights before or after staying with us.

  • Wall dives along the 600-metre vertical drop-off (Barracuda Point, South Point, Hanging Gardens, Turtle Patch)
  • Large schools of barracuda, jackfish, and bumphead parrotfish at Barracuda Point
  • Green and hawksbill sea turtles in unusually high numbers
  • White-tip reef sharks routinely seen; grey reef and hammerhead sharks at deeper sites in season
  • Permit-controlled access (~250 visitors per day): advance booking through a licensed dive operator essential

Sipadan as a package add-on: for guests at Bihing Angan Resort, the Sipadan day trip is best arranged via a 2-5 night extension at one of the Mabul-area dive resorts that hold permits. Examples include Sipadan Mabul Resort, Mabul Water Bungalows, Borneo Divers Mabul Resort, Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort, Seaventures Dive Rig, and Sipadan Water Village. FEEDBACK

Guest Reviews

What guests say about their stay at Bihing Angan Resort.

Mr. Omar and his family welcomed us like old friends the moment we arrived. The resort is basic in the best possible way: clear Celebes Sea in every direction, starfish visible through the water below, and coral and fish right in front of the chalet for snorkeling. The sunsets from the deck were among the best we have seen anywhere.

A genuine budget gem over the water. The snorkeling directly off the front of the chalet is honestly some of the best I have done anywhere in Malaysia. We saw turtles several times from our room, which came as a pleasant surprise. Staff were helpful and arranged island hopping Package A which I would also recommend.

Came with friends and paid very little for a place that looked like it should cost much more. The sea around the chalet is that clear blue-green color you see in photos. We woke up early to watch the sunrise from the deck and it was completely worth it. The food was simple but satisfying with good seafood options.

Family-run and it shows in the warmth of the service. The owner helped us plan our days and made sure we had everything we needed. Snorkeling is right there in front of the resort, no boat needed, and the water is clear enough to see plenty of marine life. Rooms are basic but the location more than makes up for it.

Wei M.
China

Came as an Aussie couple and loved the honesty of this place. Yes, the rooms are dated and simple, but the views are extraordinary and the snorkeling out front is genuinely impressive. The food was traditional Malaysian style, plentiful and tasty. The staff were helpful and there was a very easy-going atmosphere throughout.

One of the most memorable stays of our trip. The water all around the chalet is clear and full of life. We chose rooms 11 and 12 after reading about turtles and did indeed see them several times during our two nights. The glass boat rides were a nice addition. Very good value for a water chalet in Semporna.
